ENGINEERING SERVICES

It's just me, and this is what I do

If you have a project in mind but don’t know where to start with turning it into ‘that thing’ which you desire, either as a home project, a product for a new business venture, a new product for an existing company of even a problem, or an improvement, to an existing product maybe I can help you with it.

I’m always happy to talk things through anyway - sometimes just doing that seems to help, and suddenly you’re back on track again... brilliant!

HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

Produce sketches of your ideas, detailing key, tricky & relevant features.

Carry out any measuring and/or site surveying which may be required.

Turn your ideas into Assembly and Component detail drawings.

Generate a material list for the project to enable you to establish a cost.

Discuss production methods and tooling for your ideas.

Help establish the most efficient and practical way forward with your plans.

Do you just want to discuss things... ideas maybe?

Have you come across a problem which needs something created to bring a potential idea into the realms of a really exciting solution? That idea could be something which might appeal to a number of people who perhaps have also fallen foul of the same difficulites, (gap in the market??), but they've not discovered a method of overcoming the problem ....perhaps you have ....what do you do now?.....you could give me a call....or send an email........my details are displayed in several places on this website.

Do you have something you want to make... or get made?

What is it you have in mind....big or small.....how many of these do you need?....perhaps I can help out with the 1st prototype..to prove the idea.

Maybe I can help out with a production issue....knock a bit of cost out by changing something on the original idea to make it easier, or quicker, to produce in larger quantities or batches...and thereby maximising your profit potential.....we all want that ...don't we?

ABOUT ME

So what have I been up to? The story so far.

Off to a great start in 2013, I wasn't quite ready... but perhaps better that way, a friend with a machining company asked me to look over a drawing that he was having trouble making. A two minute glance convinced me that this item was almost impossible for him to make. I suggested this perhaps might be a 1st draft prototype sketch but no it had been around years and was always troublesome...I visited the company and suggested they replace the complicated item with a cheap standard part...job done...sorted.

The same guy then introduced me to an individual with a good idea, but no reliable facility to transform it into a set of drawings for efficient manufacture...ideal for me...a full set of drawings in several sizes was created....helping my machinist friend no end...he was trying to build prototypes...everybody wins.

Then a previous company I had worked for asked me if I could help them out with some drawing work for 2-3 months. I willingly accepted and was there for 9 months. Whilst there I demonstrated the capabilities of 3D software which they subsequently purchased, and so I trained up the staff in it's use & methods. A personal project in the form of a vehicle adaption for disabled access was high on my priority list. Economically I couldn't find anyone else to do it, plus it is in frequent use so we can't be without it. This sounds straightforward but actually requires 63 bespoke subassemblies to be designed, made, fitted & coupled into a sequential operation to open and close the tailgate & ramp of a 2002 Renault Kangoo. I budgeted to work on this for 2 years. After completing these in time they now need to link together but a request to help out at a previous company, doing Aftersales work, for 2 months of work, becoming 14 months, before stopping for a bit of Kangoo project. 2018 was a funny year 2 company's requesting my services simultaniously...can't do both.....almost got neither....did a couple of months at one of them, although structural changes made it much more difficult than it used to be. Then after another couple of months on the Kangoo I was asked to help out at a company producing packaging machinery, new to me but interesting, enjoyable and challenging....I said I could do 6 months but actually did 7.5.....loved it ....great people.....great engineering...perfect.
